Character description
In the ancient times long past, I was known as a common practitioner of the dark arts. Well, as with most youths, I thought myself immune to certain aspects of the world around me. 'Fore, although I was young, I was one of the immortal, a vampyre. So, in my arrogance, I thought to summon up one of the most feared demons of all—Abaddon, also known as Apollyon. The ritual went perfectly, every aspect of it executed with expert precision. That, maybe, was the worst part of all.

From within my circle arose the smell of sulfur, its scent a suffocating cloud of black mist. Coughing, I backed away quickly, stopped in my tracks by my own protective circle. It was then that I realized my one mistake. I had summoned this "King of Demons" into my circle with me!

As the mist cleared and the smell of sulfur dissipated to breathable levels, I stood with my back to my circle, scared to remain within it, but even more scared to open my circle and release this being on the world.

Standing before me was what looked to be a man of around 7 feet tall, clad only in a black leg-dressing, his upper body bare sporting black, muscled skin, an almost scale-like layer covering his entire chest and arms. His face—was indescribable. Long, mid-night black hair fell down behind his ears, held back by a leather thong tie. From his forehead spouted two horns, both curving back and up, ending in twin sharp points. His eyes—my lord, those eyes! How can a being have eyes as bottomless as these? Just glancing at them brought out my worst fears, of death and the hereafter, of pain and degradation. This being exuded a power that was beyond my immortal understanding… and yet I did not feel a threat from him. Aye, I even felt a sort of safety in his presence, which seems out of place when talking about the Kind of Demons, I know, but still, it was there. As he spoke, his voice seemed to flow through me, instilling peace and tranquility in me, as well as a small niggling of fear.

“Do not fear me, young one. For you have brought me from my slumber within the other realms. And for this, I shall grant you my power, should you wish it. You will become that of a demon and a vampyre, able to take either human, vampyre, or demon form as you wish. All of your powers will be increased a hundred-fold, your strength, your speed, your stamina, everything. But, there is one stipulation, though, if you are to remain as a demon.”

I waited, knowing he would ask something of me. After all, nothing was free.

“You must shed the blood of vampyres and human alike, as well as the rogue demons that hath cursed me to slumber in a small realm just parallel to this one. You will be granted a new bite. Your bite, should you accept my gift, will no longer create vampyres, but a vampyre/demon hybrid with all the powers of both, amplified to a degree of which this world has yet to see. These being will have a choice, though: To remain bound to you and follow you through eternity, or to cast off on their own to fight eternity alone. What do you say, young one? Will you serve me in this and spill the blood necessary to retain this new power, or will you not? It is your choice. I will give you this day to think on it, then I will come back to you.” And then he was gone in a sulfuric cloud, leaving me to my torn and tattered thoughts.

And so I thought on it, and thought on it, and thought on it some more. I spent the entire night within my circle, simply sitting there, feeling the weight of all he had said to me and knowing my life would change the moment I made my decision. 'Fore although he said it was my choice, I knew he would not be pleased if I did not help him in destroying the demons that had imprisoned him. So, I thought on what reasons I had to remain as I was, a simple vampyre, bound to the night and vulnerable during the day. I knew almost instinctively that should I accept this transformation, I would be granted the day and all its pleasures. I would become a true immortal, bound by nothing.

With the coming of night, Abaddon returned, as promised. I’d made my decision. But I had only one request.

“I wish to convert a human along with me. She is sickly and dying, and I wish to take her with me into eternity, so that I may protect her for all time. Can you do this?”

He nodded slowly. “This girl you speak of, she is fated to die, but I was also fated to remain in that dark realm for eternity. I will alter her fate, but this will come at a steep price. You will have to pay for her life by binding yourself to me for eternity. You will become as my son, and prince to the demon realms. You will train under me, learn all that I know, and as such, you will be my prodigy and the heir to all that I reign over.”

I agreed, and he stepped to me. “Now, give me your hand.” As I offered him my hand, he took it, jerking me to him, his other hand stabbing deep into my chest, surrounding my heart. The pain was excruciating, so strong that I could not even muster the will to scream. I felt a searing heat around my heart, then felt the change begin as he withdrew his hand from my body, the wound sealing almost instantly. The heat spread out from my heart, through my veins, then into my organs, to my bones and my skin, searing my every nerve and driving me to the ground where my body shook continually, spasms shaking me, the pain racking my body constantly.

And then the pain was gone, and all was peaceful about me. I slept. For how long, I do not know. But when I awoke, it was to a new day—not just a new revolution of the Earth, but to the beginning of a new life. I felt the power within me, felt the elation at knowing I was now a creature of supremacy. It was then that I knew the world had officially changed. I was now bound to one of the most powerful beings the realms had ever seen, and was now his Prince. "Prince." That word took on a whole new meaning when in context with the King of Demons. I would succeed him, my dark father, when he either was destroyed or decided to step down.

I smiled and pushed myself up onto my feet. Abaddon smiled down at me—well, “down” was no longer the foot or so it had been. I was now only a few inches shorter than him. He placed his hand on my shoulder and nodded.

“Now, for this young woman. You must deliver your first bite to her, in order to save her. She will go through the same transformation you went through, so you will want to ease her through it, otherwise her worn and dying body will not survive it. Do you understand, my son?”

I felt something akin to pride at the word “son” as I nodded. “Yes, father, I will not fail. Thank you, for this dark blessing. I promise to make you proud.”

With a nod and a small smile, he dissolved into that same cloud of black mist, streaming between the realms back to his—our home to retain control of the demon realms.

I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply, feeling the expansion of muscles and power flowing through me. As I opened my eyes, I could feel their unnatural glow, feel the energy surround me as I called on my new powers. With a simple thought, I opened a portal to my soon-to-be-mate’s home in the nearby village. As I stood outside her small cottage, I felt her inside there, her labored breathing a small sign as to her condition. I opened myself up to her, letting her feel my presence, allowing her to feel me coming to her, to save her. I felt a small flutter from her then, her weakened heart beginning to pound hard, which I immediately soothed to as normal a rhythm as I could. It was instinctive, my use of this ability, and when I realized what I was doing, I smiled and approached the front door, thoughts of our future together uppermost in my mind.
