One thousand years ago
I made a choice.

I chose to be beautiful,
to be eternal,
to fly like I dreamed of flying.

The velvet night was
always my best friend -
my confidante, my solace
my keeper, my protector
my cloak, my haven and
my home.

To come home to night
was good and true.

And to this day
I stand in front of windows
(old or modern, wood or steel),
flung wide open, curtains blowing,
breathing in the scents, the sounds
the sights of night,
so totally alive,
so beckoning, so siren calling
to the deepest, widest sense
of what is I.
