Character description
William Drawlight was the last heir of a rich and prestigious family, a man educated by the waning ideals of nobility and honour. It may be that such a family or gentleman had no place in modern society, but William held his ground and stood alone in face of a newer world.
Coming into his late 40s, the noble heir found no value in money or reputation. In his heart, he nurtured a quiet desperation, feeling all he stand for fading with time. Drawlight knew he would soon be food for worms before he had the chance to find answers, love or inner peace.
Religion did not suit his cynical demeanour, but he suspected some truth could be glanced in the occult. In old books he found a glimpse of hope, but no solace to ease his heart. He felt his time was coming quicker and quicker. William rehearsed a desperate search for imortality and felt more and more like a puppet saying his lines before the curtain falls.
Umbearably held by the weight of Destiny, William could hear the wailing of madness summoning him to take his own life. It was then that he received an unexpected visit, his first in the last six years.
Even now, Drawlight can only scarcely recall what happened. He had sent letters to several obscure scholars asking for help with his recent studies. This was the first and only answer. The gentle woman did not claim to be a vampire or nearly such a creature, but there were hints that, in his studies, William could not ignore. Broken by loneliness and despair, he eagerly jumped at the chance and laid bare his soul to the stranger, begging for theory to become reality, asking her to show him!
Drawlight spent all his wit and fortune into wrestling a "yes" out of the mysterious woman. Either way, it would have been his final night as a mortal. With that new moon he stopped his beating heart and rose with a strenght of blood befitting his quest for knowledge and power.
