As a human Valyn knew hunger, or at least he thought that he had until the night he was biten. He had been a fighter all of his life but he had lost that one miserably. After that night he had begun to have hallucinations and thought himself possessed. He had gone to speak with a priest the next evening only to realize too late what he had become as he tore the apart and ate the poor man while his death rattle still rang in the air. He ran across an old battle scarred man in a tavern the next afternoon. A man who sat at his table and drank his ale without asking his by your leave. He began to protest infuriated, when the old man shot him a deadly glare stopping him in his tracks. As it turned out the old man was a kindred spirit who versed Valyn in the true spirit of his nature and informed him of the ever present vampires that sought their hides. It seemed from the stories that he heard they were easily outnumbered and the fight would be a dear one. Valyn never saw the old man after that, but after learning of the battle to come he wasn't sure that he would. He picked up his sword, paid the barkeep, and was off to whatever destiny lay ahead. It was promising to be a bloody one.
